Prayers for the Preparation of the Mass
These prayers will help centre the heart, mind, and soul, guiding worshippers to encounter Christ with reverence and an open heart.
1. Prayer of Preparation Before Mass
Heavenly Father, as I approach Your sacred altar, prepare my heart to worship You with humility and devotion. Fill me with Your Spirit, that I may fully participate in the mysteries of the Mass. Quiet my thoughts, cleanse my soul, and help me to enter into the sacred presence of Your Son, Jesus Christ, in the Blessed Sacrament. Let my prayers, words, and actions glorify You this day and always. Amen.
2. Prayer of Love and Desire for the Eucharist
O Lord Jesus, I come to You with love and longing. As I prepare to receive Your Body and Blood, awaken in me a deeper faith in Your real presence. Help me to cast aside all distractions and approach You with reverence and gratitude. May this Holy Communion strengthen my soul, unite me to Your love, and guide my heart to follow Your will. Amen.
3. Prayer for Forgiveness and Renewal
Merciful Father, as I prepare for the Holy Mass, I ask for Your forgiveness for all my sins. In Your infinite mercy, cleanse my heart and renew my spirit. Help me to reconcile with those I have hurt and seek peace with those who have hurt me. May I approach Your altar with a soul purified by Your grace, ready to receive Your divine love through the Blessed Sacrament. Amen.
4. Prayer of the Holy Spirit’s Guidance
Come, Holy Spirit, and fill my heart as I prepare to celebrate the Eucharist. Illuminate my mind with the truth of Your Word, guide my thoughts, and help me to worship with sincerity. As I hear the readings, prayers, and hymns, open my heart to receive the grace of this holy liturgy. Renew in me the desire to grow in holiness and to share Your peace with the world. Amen.
5. Prayer of Thanksgiving Before Mass
Loving God, as I prepare to come into Your presence, I thank You for the many blessings You have given me. Thank You for the gift of life, for the faith that sustains me, and for this opportunity to share in the sacrifice of the Mass. May my gratitude overflow in songs of praise and acts of love, and may my heart be ready to welcome Your Son, Jesus, into my life anew. Amen.
6. Prayer of Humility Before Receiving Communion
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. As I prepare to partake in Your Body and Blood, grant me the grace to approach Your holy table with reverence and awe. Help me to recognize Your great love and to carry that love with me into the world. Amen.
7. Traditional Prayer for Divine Services
Almighty and Merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Thou hast invited us to participate in this worship with Thy beloved Son, our High Priest and King.
Grant us the grace to fulfill our sacred duty with faith, reverence, and love,

O Lord our God, by Thy divine grace Thou hast permitted us to partake in the mysteries of Thy holy sacrifice.

11. St. Augustine’s Prayer for the Preparation of the Mass
O Lord, source of all wisdom and light, as we stand on the threshold of Thy sacred mystery,
help us to abandon the vanities of this world and to turn wholly to Thy eternal truth.
Purge our hearts of pride and fill them with humble adoration,
that in the celebration of Thy Holy Sacrifice we may encounter the fullness of Thy mercy and grace.

Lord Jesus, in this hallowed moment:

Almighty and everlasting God,
We acknowledge our frailty and our need for Thy gracious assistance as we prepare to celebrate the holy sacrifice of the Mass.
Breathe upon our hearts the fire of Thy love, dispelling all shadows of sin and doubt,
and lead us along the path of righteousness with every step.
Sanctify our intentions and transform our prayers into a pleasing offering at Thy altar,
that our voices may rise unceasingly in praise of Thy holy name. Amen.

14. Prayer for the Mass in the Spirit of the Tridentine Rite
Gracious God, in the shadow of Thy infinite mercy,
